Existing Counteract website.

My issues with the current Counteract Website, is that it's too predictable and boring.
I don't think the colour works particularly well, either. I also think the shape and scale of the logo doesn't allow it to sit comfortably on the page.
Grid systems.

The 960 Grid System is an effort to streamline web development workflow by providing commonly used dimensions, based on a width of 960 pixels. There are two variants: 12 and 16 columns, which can be used separately or in tandem.

On the 960 home page you are shown a download button where you can download templates.
These templates range from a 12, 16 or a 24 column grid depending on the content.

Counteract Website | 960 Grid system.

Starting the brief, I thought web design was just like designing for print. I thought I'd make a grid and after some considerations and thought process, would apply the information/content to the grid.

Turns out there are alot more considerations than previously thought.
When designing a website you msut be aware of the limitations
Such as

Colour
Choice of font.
Formatting

http://nylllon.com/

Another great example of gridded and quite busy website.
Much like the manchesterwire website, it's kept to a minimal colour pallet.
And much like the MW site, is built for easy function.

Once the user clicks on one of the links shown, they are instantly shown to that site in another tab.

Website research

It's time for me to start the Counteract website. To begin, I've been looking at existing music/events websites.

Manchester Wire.

Love this website! Not only does it look lovely it's functionality is impressive.
When the use hovers over "What's on" a list of options come up such as Food and drink, music, and trave The colour pallet is subtle and not too distracting. I also love how visually structured the website is .Each news item is the same size which suggests equal value and no visual distractions.

Sony music timeline.

The Sony Music Timeline celebrates 125 years of musical history covering almost 150 square meters of wall space in Sony’s Derry Street offices. Using just CNC cut vinyl as the sole medium, 54 columns measuring over 2 meters tall cover feature nearly 1000 of Sony Music's signed artists from 1887 to the present day. I saw this a bit before I started the type posters and it's my main source of inspiration for the brief. (video below)

Beautiful use of various typefaces. Designer, Alex, used 50 different typeaces which sounds like quite alot, but the finished result was 2 Meters long and covered almost 150 square meters. To show more variation he included elements within or accompanying the type.

More type examples.

Found this beautiful poster online. I  love the use of mixed type as well as a few illustrative elements added. The hierarchy is perfect (which is something I need to nail.)
