The Hepworth Wakefield.

The Hepworth Wakefield is a new art gallery based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The gallery was designed by architect David Chipperfield. It was brought to my attention in today's tutorial with Andy who had recently completed some work for the gallery.

This beautiful bespoke typeface was designed especially for the Gallery and was inspired by the sharp edges of the buildings. It's a perfect example of a typeface that's been influenced by architecture.

The typeface is used throughout the gallery from the Logo to wayfinding.
I love how the type is etched into the material so it becomes part of the building and not just printed/stuck on. It gives the building an added feel of it's purpose built.

What was also interesting to see, was that the logo/type was applied to each deliverable such as a tote bag.
