I asked members of the public and friends for their more detailed view on X factor.
"I've never watched it personally but my flatmate is constantly glued to it. I never really speak to her until it finishes. It's like theyre brainwashing you into buying their crap." Luke Wall
"You can't fault it entertainment wise. Theres been shows like this for years. Just look at opputunity knocks and New Faces for example. We just notice it more now because its everywhere. We only think it annoys us but we can't help talking about it. Its embedded into our culture." - Emily Baker.
"I only watch it because the majority of the contestants are hot. I don't pay attention to much else." - Sarah Steenson.
"It's giving all the wrong messages to kids. They're going to grow up thinking all they have to do to become famous is to get on a tv show and try to sing. They need reminding that it needs to be earned and they should keep their dignity whilst doing it." - Member of public.
"Far too fake for my liking. Its overly staged and when contestants make it to the live shows they are stripped of everything that got them through their first audition. They make them over and give them a new look. They go in as themselves but come out only as clones" Member of Public
Some of the contestants are the reason I can't stand watching it. It makes me cringe. They go on like they're a list celebs just because they're on the front of a glossy magazine. And what have they done to achieve that "fame". Sang a generic karaoke song better than average and pranced about abit. They literally become famous overnight and are living proof that fame is never well deserved any more. Claire Perry
