What makes me tick.
Being a graphic design student I'm constantly inspired by what is going on around me. From sides of bustops to packaging of a chocolate bar it never ends. It's the curse of a graphic designer.

Type

I LOVE type. When introduced to type in ND I saw it as the boring part, the "paperwork" of graphic design if you will. I still felt that way right up to the last few months of the course. Just as I was about the finish, I stumbled upon some typographical posters. These posters were just pure type, crisp and refreshing. And I got a little bit exited looking at these posters. I was just in awe of the time and effort gone in to them as well as the level of respect shown for type. It was from that moment on that I loved type.

Mixing Type

Beautiful designs from richard arthur stewart. His work shows great care and respect for typography. He's carefully considered the choice of typefaces and along with it's beautiful layout and clever logo, makes for beautiful design.

A brilliant link which shows you not only how to mix type but also when it is appropriate to mix type.

Type doesn't always have to be serious. Depending on what you're trying to say you can have plenty of fun with type.
You won't use comic sans on a death certificate now would you?

it's all about the - tone of voice.

A fun poster. Taking advantage of the shape of each character to create a masterpiece.
The play on words also adds humour.

Visually, these don't make me tick but I love how something as serious as type can be treated in such a playful way

Simplicity

I LOVELOVELOVE simple design. Everything unnecessary is taken away leaving only the idea on show. I apply this logic to all my work and to me, simplicity is key. It's so easy to make something look nice but it's pointless if it doesn't communicate.
"The best design out there, has the least design on it"

Beautiful, simple designs from Donna Wearmouth.
